Description
1. What was your first impression when viewing the photo?
My first impression upon viewing this picture is the play on reflections the photographer does due to the water mirage with create a mirror like effect of the terrain.
2. What does the work look like to you?
The work for me looks like an artist that is very meticulous, that works with texture and symmetry in urban settings
3. What is the subject of the photo?
The reflection of the palm trees
4. What textures, colours, and shapes are there?
The most aggressive texture of the picture comes from the turf of the tennis court that is rugged and is magnified by the water. Other the other texture that I do take into my mind when I see this picture is the clean surface that the water ponds provide to the picture which makes for a very aggressive contrast.
5. What about line, forms and space?
The line of the picture is directed by the vertical lines of the tennis court, which leads you to the point of focus in the picture that is the middle palm tree. This picture has a lot of space because the lines allows it to have depth and the forms in the picture are mainly lines and equidistant vertical structures (the palm trees) vertical lines in the tennis court and the fence pattern all are vertical lines with symmetry and equal distance
Analysis:

What stands out and draws your eye in this photo
The water reflection is what stands out to me it provokes a mirror image of the center of the picture which are the palm trees.

How is the photograph organized in terms of design elements (line, space, etc)
We can organize this picture into three equal parts each part with a palm tree. Each of these parts have a pond where light is reflected and vertical lines from the tennis court which provide a lot of depth in the picture the picture is very organized and that creates a sense of tranquility and quietness in the picture

What about contrast, rhythm, balance, proportion?

The rhythm is serene, because of the aspects of the picture and that they represent a sense of tranquility the rhythm is also in accordance to this. The picture is balanced there is a division of this in the pictures naturally made by the palm trees which also brings proportions to the picture in this natural division no other part is out weight by the other, they are symmetrical the focus point and the strongest focus is in the middle palm tree which attracts most of the attention.

Interpretation

    What is the photo about

This picture is about the tranquility that has the end of the storm. The serenity and the purifying effect that a rain shower has over a place.
What is the message of the photographer?
The message is the tranquility that it arrises in what can be a chaotic and busy place like a urban tennis court after a storm. The noiseless and tranquil place that is a man made place without men.

Does the photo have a purpose?
I believe that the purpose of the picture is to make us realise that there is serenity and tranquility everywhere, we just have to wait for the right moment, like the aftermath of  a rain shower and

What feelings do you get from the photo?
I get to a feeling of tranquility and the serenity, the smell of fresh bloomed flowers and the being alone in a place where it is usually very crowded

Does it remind you of something?
It reminds me of the rainy days on summer camp where you couldn't go out and play tennis, and then all of a sudden you can go outside because the rain has stopped and going out and mopped the tennis court in order to play as fast as I can

Evaluation

Did your first impression change, and why?

My first impression did change because at first glance I only took notice the mirror effect the water pond created. And now I focus more on what the picture represent and the emotional reaction that I have when I see the picture.
Do you think it is a successful photo?
I believe it is a successful picture, it is has a clear balance, it has texture contrast , it has a clear focus point and it provoke an emotional reaction from the viewer.

    Is it unique?
I believe that there is a uniqueness in the moment, the stillness of the surrounding and the lack of activity in the court as well as there is no activity or humans in the background, everything is at a standstill. I believe that to that extend there is a uniqueness to the picture

    Could you do it better?

I believe that the photographer did the picture with the purpose of portraying the standstill of the scenery in a symmetrical and balanced picture, because of that I believe he managed to do the best he could.
Can you readily understand the subject matter, and do the design elements (space, form, line, shape, color, texture) help you to do so? The depth and the the vertical lines in the picture the contrast in texture and the urban setting without any human and the sky opening up to the sun allows us to understand the subject matter in question, the symmetry that is obviously manmade both the tennis court and the garden and the lack of humans makes us understand the serenity and the subject in the picture.

Was the photo well planned, in your opinion?
I believe the picture was opportunistic because it is quite hard to control urban settings but it was well developed, structured and taken.

Would you buy it or hang it in your home?
yes.

Have you learned anything that you could apply to your own photography?

I believe that this picture was very well structure but it was opportunistic, I can learn that in order to make the best of this small windows of opportunity I have to subjectively always be prepared to take a picture because the subjects that I would want to express might appears out of the blue so I should be always prepared and on the look for interesting settings for to pictures
    Does the photo inspire you?
Yes, because it shows that peace and serenity can be achieve even in the most chaotic and noises place and that can be transcend to a more universal topic that I consider inner peace.

Memory:

1. The faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information.
2. something remembered from the past.

This picture was taken after my high school debate team was awarded for being ranked 2nd in the US. This photo represents a time of happiness and accomplishment for me. It was such a difficult accomplishment to achieve and not only did I do it, I did it alongside my best friend Caleb. This photo helps me remember a time where passion for debate and a desire to win drove me to achievement and happiness.

Justin: Memory

Memory

A picture that comes to mind is not a professional one. It is a picture of my great grandfather's diploma. He grew up in the early 1900s in Philadelphia. It was a very racially combative time and he faced obstacles everyday. He graduated from a university for Blacks in the 1940s. That is a huge feat that many Blacks because few had access to higher education and his diploma is now a motivational relic for me.

Memory is powerful. It can shape who you are and effect your life's direction.

Olivia

Memory:

It is your personal perception of a point in time in your life. It can be specific, like a snapshot of time. Or it can be generic, like a vague fuzzy feeling of happiness surrounding a certain event. Either way, memory comes with feelings, thoughts, and sensations, it is never just an image. Memories are what shape us into who we are, as they remind us where we have come from and where we wish to go.

This is a picture of me and my two brothers. It was taken last year when I was home for Thanksgiving Break and my mom wanted family portraits. To me, this captures the memory of growing up as the older sister. I am an out of state student so I don't get to see my family very often. When I look at this picture it reminds me of how much I love my little brothers. Even though we fight like all siblings do, this reminds me that my little brothers look up to me as the oldest and that they will always have my back, just as I do theirs. This photo captures the memory of the love I feel when I'm around my family.

Ngoni

Memory

Memory is about a historical event that took place in someones life or about something that happened which someone was told about. Memory about an event can be triggered just by looking at a photograph which was taken at the same time that event took place.

Kristen

Memory
a memory is an interpretation and a perception of events, people, places, and things that is subjective to each person. You can remember your thoughts, feelings, smells, and images of a particular experience. Although two people may have a memory about the same thing, each person has a different interpretation of it and so they have different memories of it. One of the photos that stand out most to me and that I have a strong memory of is a photo taken of me and my best friend (still is) when we were younger, probably in preschool. My entire family as well as hers routinely sends the two of us this photo about once a year to remember how long we have been friends and how strong our friendship still is. I remember this photo taken right before going to see Beauty and the Beast on broadway and we brought the stuffed animals in the photos with us! I even remember us both going to the bathroom in the theatre and carrying our stuffed animals with us. It is so crazy how a simple photograph of an event can jog your memory and help you to remember everything about what happened when it was taken.

Sara Cristina

Memory: it is like a picture on our mind that you have to recall it sometimes, otherwise it will vanishes.

Francesca

Memory

Sometimes a certain scent, event or even a picture can trigger something in you that brings you back to a certain time and place. A memory is a recollection of that moment and can bring you back to the feeling you had during that event.

Najla

Memory is important to me because I love my life and I appreciate that I can remember most things about it. Photography can play an important role in memory because people can look at a picture and it will bring back memories of a specific event that took place in their life.
I will never forget how blue and beautiful the water was in CinqueTerre and I chose this picture because I feel like it really captures the beauty of the water.

Emma

Memory

Memory is a way of freezing a moment in your mind that has a particular significance to you. What's interesting is that memory is subjective, and each time a memory is recalled, it is altered a bit and recategorized, often influenced by one's current state and experiences. Memories are not accurate or reliable portrayals of past events, but instead emotionally charged descriptions of experiences. They are often multi-sensory, including details of smell, sound, taste, touch, or sight, and their recollection is often triggered by the same.

Natalie Smith

Memory- replaying thoughts and feelings of a certain time period over in your head. Sometimes you can remember little details and other times you can remember everything that happened to you. The amazing part of a photo is that it lets you go back to your past.

This photo is of Seattle Washington. I went on a trip with my dad so he could see where he was born. In the far back you can see Mount Rainier. I remember all of the locals saying that since its always rainy in Seattle you can never see the mountain, only if you were lucky. The week I was in Seattle on a very clear day I saw it. It was beautiful.

Cristina

This is a picture that I took of my little sister playing with snow a few years ago. I love the snow, and the memory associated with this picture is fun and happy so I always enjoy looking at it.

Memory is kind of like a picture or video in your head of a time or event in your life that was important to you or that made you feel certain emotions.

Lindsay

Memory: Actions, expressions, feelings, and emotions make up a person's experience that soon becomes a memory once other experiences take the place of them.

I love Christmas. I have been obsessed with the holiday season since I was a little girl. I love the time of fall leading up to Thanksgiving and then Christmas because of the joy, happiness, and warmth that surround this time of year. I remember the first time I went to New York City with my family around Christmas time and seeing the lit up christmas tree at Rockefeller centre for the first time.

Veronica

Memory

A memory, to me, is a recollection of a moment in time that you experienced. It is composed of images, thoughts, emotions, sounds, and smells. A memory, over time, can be altered or changed, based on events of the time. One photo that comes to mind when I look back to memories, especially of my childhood, is my mothers film camera. It made a lot of noise, and was iconic to my childhood. This photo my mom considers iconic to my childhood.

Cheyanne

memory- photo of a German castle, the Neuschwanstein castle. At my home we have a picture of it on the wall downstairs. I remember it specifically because I am part German, so I have always wanted to visit it.
