Justin test 2


Description
1. What was your first impression when viewing the photo?
I thought initially it was of a poor man in a seat, but then saw that there is a gathering going on in the background.
2. What does the work look like to you?
I'm not sure to be honest.
3. What is the subject of the photo?
I think there are two subjects, the impoverished person and the people in the ceremony. There is a message and story for both subjects.
4. What textures, colors, and shapes are there?
It's a B/W photo but the tiles in the ground give linear shape. The wall also directs the viewers eyes.
5. What about line, forms and space?
The tiles and the walls create a longer space.
Analysis:

the person in the chair vs. the nonchalant people in the background
  1. How is the photograph organized in terms of design elements (line, space, etc)

Interpretation
  1. What is the photo about
This photo seems to be a statement on poverty.

  1. What is the message of the photographer?
I like the shot distance between the wedding ceremony and the poor person in the chair. It conveys that there is a broader issue that the wealthy are oblivious to. 
  1. Does the photo have a purpose?
Purpose of highlighting two different realities
  1. What feelings do you get from the photo?
It makes me feel upset.
  1. Does it remind you of something?
Nothing in particular.

Evaluation
  1. Did your first impression change, and why?
No because it seems like a straight forward message.
  1. Do you think it is a successful photo?
Absolutely
  1. Is it unique?
Yes. It captures poverty in a successfully juxtaposing way.
  1. Could you do it better?
Nah son. I cannot.
  1. Can you readily understand the subject matter, and do the design elements (space, form, line, shape, color, texture) help you to do so?

  1. Was the photo well planned, in your opinion?
It seems very natural yet the photographer captured it at the right opportunity.
  1. Would you buy it or hang it in your home?
Probably not.
  1. Have you learned anything that you could apply to your own photography?
Use your angles correctly and look for irregularities to tell a story.
  1. Does the photo inspire you?
Yes. It's definitely inspiring.
