Kristen Test 2

1. What was your first impression when viewing the photo?
It was that the image is very powerful even though the entire foreground is blurred, which is hard to capture as a photographer.
2. What does the work look like to you?
The work looks like a wedding photo of the bride caught off guard while all attention is on her.
3. What is the subject of the photo?
The woman wearing the wedding gown
4. What textures, colors, and shapes are there?
The fabric of the bride's clothing, all shades of black and white in the photo, the texture of hair, and the back of men's heads zoomed in
5. What about line, forms and space?
Both men's heads frame the focused bride in the middle. The space in between the heads compliments the bride's shape very well and looks as though it follows her outline.
Analysis:
  1. What stands out and draws your eye in this photo
The fact that you can tell subject of the photo is the bride even though she is in the background and it is done by the way she is focused in on while everything else is blurry, and the men's heads are turned towards her so you know that their gaze is also on her.
  1. How is the photograph organized in terms of design elements (line, space, etc)
The three objects are all next to each other, and the space inbetween the outer two men seem to frame and compliment the curves of the bride's outline
  1. What about contrast, rhythm, balance, proportion?
The photo is all done in black and white so there is high contrast and the subjects of the photo almost fall in the middle of each 1/4th vertical line of the photo

Interpretation
  1. What is the photo about
A bride being the center of attention on her wedding day and everyone has their eyes on her.
  1. What is the message of the photographer?
It is that weddings are beautiful and a bride can really captivate and capture the attention of the room without even trying
  1. Does the photo have a purpose?
I'm not exactly sure
  1. What feelings do you get from the photo?
Feelings of awe and wonder - also joy and happiness
  1. Does it remind you of something?
Not exactly since i've never attended a wedding

Evaluation
  1. Did your first impression change, and why?
Nope I don't think that it did
  1. Do you think it is a successful photo?
Yes, definitely successful and very powerful
  1. Is it unique?
Yes I think it is
  1. Could you do it better?
Probably not - the timing had to be just right to capture the outline of the bride in the space of the men's faces
  1. Can you readily understand the subject matter, and do the design elements (space, form, line, shape, color, texture) help you to do so?
Yes and yes they do - especially the shapes and the colors
  1. Was the photo well planned, in your opinion?
Yes it had to have been
  1. Would you buy it or hang it in your home?
Probably not since I think it would be weird to hang a photo of someone on their wedding day in my home when it isn't me
  1. Have you learned anything that you could apply to your own photography?
Yes - timing and shape framing through other shapes in the photo can be applied to have a very powerful photo of something even if there are other objects in front of it
  1. Does the photo inspire you?
